New Open-World StarCraft Game Targeted for 2030 Release

Blizzard has officially unveiled a new third-person StarCraft game targeted for a 2030 launch. Marking a major departure from the series' Real-Time Strategy roots, the upcoming single-player and co-op title shifts the action to an open-world perspective focused on the power fantasy of playing a Dominion Marine.

According to Blizzard General Manager Dan Hay, the studio revealed the project years ahead of release to begin gathering player feedback now that the core identity and feel of the game are established.

Key Features & Gameplay Details

Game Structure & Narrative Approach Despite modern industry trends, Blizzard intends the game to feel like a self-contained "boxed product" with a definitive narrative ending rather than a standard live-service experience. Players will step into the boots of a fully named protagonist, building rapport with characters across a story that picks up seven decades after Valerian Mengsk’s Dominion and Zagara’s Zerg sought peace. Early cinematic teasers hint at brutal clashes involving new Dominion recruits, Zerg swarms, and the Protoss.

What We Know So Far

Blizzard Entertainment confirmed that the game is being built for PC (Microsoft Windows), with improved visuals, new mechanics, and environments designed around the storybook theme.

We wanted to create a world that feels like stepping into a storybook — full of wonder, surprises, and discovery around every corner.
